ABOUT US
We founded Vote16Oregon in 2024 as a group of students from across the Beaverton School District, all of whom serve on the Beaverton Mayor's Youth Advisory Board (MYAB). Within MYAB, we operate through three subcommittees—events, community involvement, and advocacy—where we collaborate to create and promote opportunities for youth engagement.
In April 2024, MYAB organized the Youth Summit, an event aimed at connecting local nonprofit organizations with high school students throughout the Beaverton School District. The primary goal was to raise awareness about the avenues for youth involvement and to address pressing issues within Beaverton. To conclude the event, we invited students to brainstorm and articulate their ideas for transforming Beaverton into a more youth-oriented city.
As we reviewed the innovative suggestions from the students, it became increasingly clear how deeply city decisions affect our daily lives—we work jobs, pay taxes, utilize city infrastructure, and more. Yet, despite the quality and creativity of our contributions, we are denied the right to vote. This realization is the driving force behind our advocacy today, as we push to lower the voting age to 16 in Oregon.
